Ninja Womb Warriors!

As well as the main WCSUK Facebook page we have a private chat group, and this is somewhere where the women can chat in complete privacy about things.
Its a close knit group, as you would expect from women who share their most intimate problems with each other.
It is a group that pulls close together when one of its members is having a bad time, but it's also a group that can laugh and joke and smile together.
Some time ago, one of the ladies christened the group "The ninja womb warriors" and that name has stuck!
We are warriors, and we're fighting an evil foe!
I had some tiny polymer clay figures made that I turned into keyrings for the women and after my recent attempt at making an awareness video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-ZO9FxHyO0  I used these figures in a second video!
Check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5em9wf8rVDc&feature=bf_next&list=ULr-ZO9FxHyO0
Ok, so I'm never likely to win an Oscar but these little video's are doing what they are intended to do - to spread the word about Womb Cancer Support UK and to reach out to all the other women out there going through womb cancer.
If we can reach them and let then know that they are not alone - then these short video's will have worked.

Hollywood here we come!!!

We have made the move into the world of youtube and have uploaded our first video!
Its nothing fancy, infact its very basic but it is intended to be the first of many awareness raising videos made by us here at WCSUK.
We are also hoping that other women will make some short films for us and we look forward to collaborating in future months.
So here it is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-ZO9FxHyO0

Please watch and rate - and then share! We need to reach out to as many women as possible so we are relying on you to help us!

Thank you!

What a difference a year makes!!

What an amazing year its been for WCSUK!

From a chance meeting between myself and Debra, both of us womb cancer survivors; has sprung a mutual support group full of wonderful women, each with their own story to tell.

The past year has seen WCSUK grow from its small beginings on Facebook to over 330 supporters.

As well as the FB page and chat group, there is this blog, the twitter account and the petition page - all brought together by the website set up for us by Debra's daughter Annette.

We ran a successful awareness campaign during September as well as a fundraising auction to help add funds to the research project being run by Dr Ellis at Hammersmith Hospital.

Debra sold Christmas cards designed by Annette and I continue to make and sell jewellery for the fundraising.

So, its been a busy year - full of highs and lows as we follow some of the women in the group through their treatment schedules.

So here's to the next year - and beyond! What does the future hold? Well, we've still got a long way to go to dispell the stereotypes about the women who get womb cancer and we've got a lot more awareness raising to do but our priority has been and always will be to offer support and advice to those women who have womb cancer.

Because, no one fights alone!

Raising Awareness & Empowering Women

Running a support group whilst trying to recover from major surgery and cancer treatment has been a bit difficult at times but knowing that what we do as WCSUK is valued by the women who come to us is what keeps us going.
Knowing how alone we felt in the early days of diagnosis; having no-one to talk to about how we felt; knowing no-one with a similar diagnosis.
The women who are part of WCSUK don't have to go through that - because now there is somewhere they go go for help, advice, support and a shoulder to cry on!
Its been truly humbling to see how the women have come together to "be there" for each other.

But it doesn't stop there. Supporting women going through womb cancer treatment is one thing, but raising awareness of a cancer that kills around 1,700 women in the UK each year (and over 8.000 in US!) is proving a hard thing to achieve.

What can WCSUK do? The women in the group are spread around the UK - none of us have ever met! We do what we can by sharing links on Facebook and twitter but how do we reach the many women out there who may be about to get a diagnosis of womb cancer, or the many thousands who could be at a high risk of getting a diagnosis in the future?

A dedicated national womb cancer charity would be a start! It would help to reach the women who are not on Facebook. We have had a petition running now for some months and it is slowly gathering signatures so we know that there is a need for this kind of charity.

Please share the link with as many people as possible - via Facebook, twitter, email etc.

March 8th is International Women's Day and WCSUK is joining this year is a bid to raise global awareness of womb/uterine/endometrial cancer.
http://www.internationalwomensday.com/wcsuk Please join us and again, share the link around. It is the only way that we can, at present, get the word out and raise awareness. We have no publicity budget; we can't take out advertisments in the press or get leaflets printed. We need you, the women of this world to help other women and give them the information they need to look after themselves.

Out with the old......

...and in with the new!

2011 has been a busy and eventful year for us at WCSUK.

This time last year, we didn't exist! We came into being in April and things have snowballed since then!

The Facebook page; the twitter page; the website - they are all being seen and followed and we are reaching out to women with womb cancer who want support!

We have a lot of things planned for 2012 - but for now we'd just like to wish everyone a peaceful and happy new year.

Always remember that no-one fights alone! xx

Have a peachy xmas with us!

December is upon on and it will soon be xmas. Before you rush off to the shops to buy some cards and presents please take a look at some of the items we have to offer that will help raise funds for womb cancer research.

Debra's very talented daughter, Annette had designed some lovely cards for us, all in peach with some lovely quirky touches. They can be found here
http://www.redbubble.com/people/dparry/collections/108202-christmas-cards?product_type=greeting-card so please do go and have a look at them. They would make a great talking point and give you the chance to explain all about our awareness campaign!

We have re-opened the fundraising page over on Facebook and I have added some new handmade items. The auction we held during September for the awareness month was a huge succes and raised over £300 so I am hoping that we can generate some more funds in the run up to xmas.

All the items come wrapped in tissue paper and in organza pouches and are ideal as stocking fillers. Again, please pop over and have a look and share the link with as many people as possible.

A quick update on our petition calling for a dedicated national womb cancer charity https://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/wombcancercharity the number of signatures now stands at 632! Again, please share the link with as many people as possible!

Remember our website can be found here
http://www.wix.com/wombcancersupportuk/home so if you know anyone who may benefit from some mutual support then please let them know about us!

We are already making plans for next years awareness campaign in September. We need to raise awareness of womb cancer and bring a halt to the increasing number of women that are getting this dreadful disease. Only by talking about it and making women aware of the symptons can be hope to one day see an end to womb cancer.

Until next time xx
